Super Duper Fat Doppler Tuesday
Well, I can't imagine how more "breaking news" events could be packed into one 24 hour time span than took place yesterday. It makes it difficult to focus your attention.
While his lead still cannot be called definitive, Obama knocked out more delegates in more states than his Democratic competitors (who was the guy who won in New Mexico anyway, never heard of him). McCain is the clear front runner on the Republican side although there's a dog fight for second place with Ron Paul bringing up the rear.
In some of those same primary states, Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky, what appear to have been at least F3 tornadoes (over 60 counted) ripped through communities and cities, killing more than 50 and injuring hundreds, not to mention the horrifying damage. When you see a semi-truck and trailer reduced to unidentifiable shreds of metal the full force of these storms becomes crystal clear. It was ironic seeing Bush making a public statement this morning, committing to FEMA support, etc. I couldn't help but think back to those 4-5 mornings after Katrina when he not only had yet to acknowledge massive damage had even occurred but no action was being taken to assist the devastated area for that unbelievable amount of time. Individual volunteers from all over the country arrived to help long before the government showed up. The whole thing is still unbelievable to me.
But apparently New Orleans is letting bygones be bygones with what city spokespeople called a fully restored Mardi Gras function underway yesterday. Of course in the same breath it was reported that maybe six people were killed in the vicinity of the parades yesterday, some deaths caused by personal conflicts and others related to drug trafficking. The city's obviously not exactly in a pristine state.
This was the kind of day CNN lives for.
